POSITION:                   Summer Park Attendant

SALARY:                      $21.62 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits = $24.65 per hour (Jan.2024 rates)

                                    $22.05 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits = $25.14 per hour (July.2024 rates)

CLASSIFICATION:        JB05

HOURS OF WORK:      20-40 hours per week – must be able to work weekends and evenings.

STATUS:                      Auxiliary/Temporary (Spring to September 2024)

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the park’s maintenance supervisor, the position performs basic park/golf maintenance duties and will be directly supervised by the park’s horticulturist, the assistant greens keeper and other parks/golf employees; completes tasks of a manual nature by use of hand-operated tools.

 

JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Routine garbage pick-up, grounds’ maintenance, hand watering, hand trimming and mowing, assist in garden maintenance; operates maintenance equipment as directed.
  • Conducts clean up and maintenance of various parks/golf facilities in preparation or follow-up from special events.
  • Attend staff training sessions and monthly departmental staff meetings; adheres to all departmental and industry policies and safety procedures.
  • Performs other related facility maintenance duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduation or equivalent; preference will be given to applicants enrolled in secondary education, particularly horticultural or related studies.
  • Physically fit and able to perform a wide variety of heavy manual outdoor work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated experience in grounds maintenance in a parks/golf atmosphere.
  • Dealing with basic concerns of the park users in a positive, courteous, and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out verbal and written instructions; and to work cooperatively in a team environment with parks staff, Juan de Fuca personnel and other agencies.
  • Ability to operate standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • A valid CLASS 5 BC drivers’ licence is a requirement.
  • BC Pesticide Applicator’s certificate and First Aid/CPR certificate would be an asset.
