Pearson College UWC is recruiting for an outstanding Health Centre Manager who is also a Registered Nurse (RN) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).

Reporting to:  Director Human Resources, Health, and Wellness

Position Summary:

The Health Centre Manager & RN/NP leads the College’s health and wellness services, manages Health Centre staff as assigned to ensure holistic, student-centered care and supports the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of our diverse student population. This role combines clinical expertise with strategic leadership, including managing staff performance, coordinating care plans, and implementing health initiatives.

This role works closely with students, staff, houseparents, local health professionals, and families to provide clinical expertise, emergency response, health education, and ongoing support for students navigating both common and complex health challenges while away from home. The Health Centre Manager & RN/NP also contributes to the development of health-related policies, collaborates across departments, and helps ensure a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage Health Centre team members, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
  • Lead team meetings and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align student health and wellness strategies.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic, multidisciplinary student care and support plans.
  • Develop and implement health and mental wellness initiatives, workshops, and awareness campaigns to support student wellbeing.
  • Advise senior leadership on health-related risks, policies, compliance requirements, and best practices, and contribute to the development and review of school health policies and procedures.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with regional Health Authorities, healthcare providers, specialists, and community agencies.
  • Coordinate immunization clinics, public health initiatives, and infectious disease prevention and outbreak management protocols, including vaccination compliance.
  • Assess and evaluate student health concerns and provide comprehensive nursing care within the RN/NP scope of practice.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nursing care plans for students with acute, chronic, or complex medical conditions.
  • Administer medications and treatments, including injections, wound care, and chronic condition management, in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards.
  • Make independent clinical decisions and referrals to physicians, mental health professionals, specialists, or emergency services when required.
  • Respond to medical emergencies by leading onsite triage, stabilization, coordination with emergency responders, and post-incident follow-up care.
  • Support and manage return-to-learn and return-to-play plans for students recovering from injuries or illnesses, including but not limited to concussions.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Admissions regarding student medical histories, accommodation needs, and care planning.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student health concerns, care plans, and ongoing support as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and legally compliant health records, documentation, and incident reporting.
  • Oversee the safe storage, administration, inventory, and disposal of medications and medical supplies in compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and culturally sensitive environment by building trusting relationships with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall operations of the College.  

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Currently in good standing RN/NP with the provincial regulatory body (e.g., BCCNM).   
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications (Mental Health First Aid and ASSIST is an asset). 
  • Certification in public health, adolescent health, or school nursing is an advantage. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ clinical nursing experience (youth-focused preferred) and/or at least 3 years of experience as a Charge Nurse in a clinical setting.
  • Emergency and mental health experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience training others in basic care procedures and emergency protocols. 
  • Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and collaborative team member.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, prepare reports, and identify cost-saving opportunities. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other administrative and Electronic Health Records (EHR) tools, preferably Arya or similar systems. 
  • A sensitive and empathic approach to communicating with students, family members and the adult community.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License, Class 4 preferred.

Compensation & Organization

This is a full-time on-site position of 35 hours per week located at Pearson College UWC in Metchosin, approximately 40 minutes from downtown Victoria, BC. Hourly compensation ranges from $51.00 to $58.00 for RN and $65.00 to $85.00 for NP, plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes four (4) weeks of vacation pay with additional paid time off during Christmas, extended health & dental coverage, and an on-site meal program (taxable benefits).
